Shopping for the House

Dad and I went around to the various stores that our builder asked us to go to so we could pick out some things for our home. We first went to Luke's Carpet and picked out the flooring we would want. We decided that we are sick of vacuuming, so the whole house, except for the living room and the stairs will be wood. While there we also picked out counter tops and back splashes for the kitchen and bathrooms and laundry room as well as the linoleum floor for the bathrooms and laundry room. (I can't remember what we decided for out walk-in closet, so I guess I had better check, as I think I would rather have wood in there.) Then we stopped by Lumberman's where we picked out doors and doorknobs. We are going to have a frosted pocket door between the living room and kitchen, and a frosted door for the pantry. Kaitlin doesn't like having the word pantry on the pantry door, so we made sure it wasn't going to be etched into the door. Everything we chose is pretty simple and ordinary. We don't want the kind of house where people are afraid to make themselves at home for fear they might mess something up. Our next stop was at Keller Supply where we picked out sinks and tubs and showers. Once again, nothing fancy. It would be nice to have a jetted tub, but the price difference is astronomical and we never take baths anyway.... We thought we had one more stop for the day, at Central Pre-Mix to look at rock for the front of the house, but not only do you have to buy the rock, it has to be handlaid by a mason. So we went to Lowe's and priced Poly-rock which is put onto the house the same as siding and still looks nice. While at Lowe's we tried to figure out what colors to paint the inside and outside of the house, but it is still up for debate. We don't know yet. Later on, after dad had to go to work, I had an appointment to look at kitchen cabinets at Premier Wood and to arrange the kitchen. Once again we went with a plain look, but we found some cupboard handles that we really like that will be nice. I picked out a stain for the cupboard doors, but I am not convinced that it is truly what I want or that it blends in with the floor and the counters. As we get further into the process I will probably ask Sister Stephenson to go with me to help me figure that out better, as I am really not very good at that.

We didn't even fill up half of the storage unit. As I have been walking around the house today I keep seeing things that we can put into storage, so I will be packing up some more boxes and we figure once we get 10-12 boxes again we will take them down. There is just tons of stuff we could tuck away. Too bad we want to keep all of this stuff!

Pam-
Welcome to the wonderful world of blogging! I'm so happy to be able to stalk your life! (I guess having you in my backyard won't be enough stalking for me- hehe!) I love decorating! Call if you need anything!

Pam-
sure- I will loan out books. It may take me awhile to read this one though, I am going slow and it is huge. It is not the 4th book to twilight though. It is an adult (not young adult) book of s. meyer's that just came out. It is about aliens and body snatching. I don't know if it will be a series or not. The 4th Twilight book comes out in august and the movie of Twilight comes out in December.
Boy- do I know way too much about this or what?
